Description: Manages Trapeze Networks external RADIUS and LDAP server configuration for wireless authentication.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-EXTERNAL-SERVER-MIB?
TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-EXTERNAL-SERVER-MIB is a vendor-specific module from Trapeze Networks (a wireless LAN infrastructure vendor later acquired by Juniper) that models external authentication and support server configuration used by Trapeze wireless controllers. It exposes configuration data for external RADIUS and LDAP servers used for wireless client authentication, as well as syslog server destinations and DNS server addresses used by the controller. In terms of hardware/software status monitoring, this MIB is primarily about operational configuration health rather than physical hardware, letting an administrator confirm the controller is pointed at the correct, reachable syslog, DNS, and authentication servers, and can be used to detect a misconfigured or unreachable external service that would explain authentication failures. It complements other Trapeze enterprise MIBs and interacts conceptually with standard syslog/DNS behavior but is not itself dependent on a specific IETF standard. It is typically deployed on enterprise Trapeze (later Juniper) wireless LAN controllers to centrally verify external service configuration across a fleet of access points. Engineers can download the TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-EXTERNAL-SERVER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-EXTERNAL-SERVER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Trapeze Networks wireless LAN controller
- Juniper (formerly Trapeze) WLAN controller
Monitoring Examples
An administrator could poll trpzExtServerSyslogTable/trpzExtServerSyslogEntry, examining trpzExtServerSyslogAddress, trpzExtServerSyslogPort, and trpzExtServerSyslogEnable for each configured syslog destination to confirm logs are being forwarded to the right collector on the right port. Cross-checking trpzExtServerPrimaryDnsIpAddress and trpzExtServerSecondaryDnsIpAddress against expected values would reveal if a controller was pointed at a stale or unreachable DNS server, which could cause RADIUS/LDAP hostname resolution failures. If trpzExtServerSyslogEnable shows disabled unexpectedly, that flags a monitoring blind spot for the affected controller.
What Can Be Monitored
- syslog server address and port
- syslog forwarding enable state
- primary DNS server address
- secondary DNS server address
- external authentication server configuration
