What Is TN-VRTR-MIB?

This Nokia MIB manages Virtual Router (VRTR) instances on 7x50 SR-series service routers, covering the creation, naming, and administrative state of each virtual routing context along with global routing-resource limits. It exposes objects for the count of configured/active virtual routers, per-VRTR admin state and name, and global limits such as maximum ARP entries and route-threshold soak times for both IPv4 and IPv6. It supports monitoring of the software/control-plane configuration health of the routing platform, letting an admin confirm a virtual router is administratively up (vRtrAdminState) and track how close the device is to its configured ARP or routing-table scaling thresholds. It is part of Nokia's broader SROS routing MIB family that this module's objects (like per-VRTR interface and protocol state) tie into. It is typically deployed on Nokia 7x50 SR routers running multiple virtual routing/VPN contexts in service-provider networks. Monitoring Examples

An operator would check vRtrConfiguredVRtrs against vRtrActiveVRtrs to confirm all provisioned virtual routers are actually up, then look at the vRtrConfTable (vRtrConfEntry) for a specific vRtrID to check vRtrAdminState and vRtrName. vRtrMaxARPEntries combined with the current ARP table size on that VRTR indicates how close the router is to an ARP-table scaling limit. vRtrRouteThresholdSoakTime and vRtrIPv6RouteThresholdSoakTime govern how long a route-count threshold must be exceeded before an alarm is raised, relevant when tuning alerting sensitivity.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using vRtrStatIllegalLabels OID:

Select a Nokia 7x50 SR-series service router (virtual-router admin state/ARP-scaling status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type vRtrStatIllegalLabels into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports vRtrStatIllegalLabels indicates the number of illegally received labels on this virtual router. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
