Description: Manages Transition Networks firmware upgrade operations, image selection, and status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-DEV-SYS-UPGRADER-MIB?

TN-DEV-SYS-UPGRADER-MIB is a Transition Networks proprietary SNMP MIB that manages firmware/software upgrade operations for ION-series and newer Transition Networks switches, letting an operator trigger and track image upgrades remotely via SNMP. It exposes an operation-request table for issuing upgrade commands and a results table recording the outcome of each upgrade attempt, including the affected module, resulting status, failure reason, and start/completion timestamps. This MIB is explicitly about monitoring the software status of the device: whether an upgrade succeeded or failed, how long an upgrade took, and which internal module was upgraded, essential for confirming a fleet-wide firmware rollout completed cleanly. It also defines notifications so operators can be alerted asynchronously rather than having to poll. It is deployed on Transition Networks ION-platform switches during scheduled firmware maintenance windows in enterprise or industrial networks. Engineers can download the TN-DEV-SYS-UPGRADER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-DEV-SYS-UPGRADER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks ION-series managed switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator writes to upgradeOpCommand in tnUpgradeOpTable/tnUpgradeOpEntry to initiate a firmware upgrade, then polls upgradeOpStatus to track progress. After completion, tnUpgradeResultTable/tnUpgradeResultEntry is checked, reading upgradeResultStatus and upgradeResultReason to confirm success or diagnose a failed upgrade on a specific upgradeResultModule. upgradeResultTimeStarted and upgradeResultTimeCompleted are compared to measure upgrade duration and flag an upgrade that appears to have hung.

What Can Be Monitored

  • upgrade command status
  • per-module upgrade result/status/reason
  • upgrade start and completion time
