Description: Manages Transition Networks device user account credentials and access privileges.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TN-DEV-SYS-USER-MIB?
This Transition Networks proprietary MIB manages local user-account administration on TN devices, covering user credentials, privilege levels, and login-method configuration for device access control. It exposes a user table with username, password, privilege level, and account status, plus a login-method table associating client access methods (e.g., console, Telnet, SSH) with authentication methods. Its monitoring relevance is chiefly a security/software-configuration status signal rather than hardware health: tnDevSysUserStatus reveals whether an account is enabled or disabled, and unexpected additions or changes in tnDevSysUserTable can indicate unauthorized account creation. As a device-specific MIB it relies on generic SNMP/security conventions rather than a specific IETF standards MIB, and it's a companion to other TN-DEV-SYS-* MIBs covering device management. It's typically deployed on Transition Networks managed media converters, switches, or NIDs where local (non-RADIUS/TACACS) user accounts need to be audited. Engineers can download the TN-DEV-SYS-USER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-DEV-SYS-USER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Transition Networks managed media converter/switch/NID
Monitoring Examples
An admin walks tnDevSysUserTable / tnDevSysUserEntry keyed by tnDevSysUserIndex to audit tnDevSysUserName, tnDevSysUserLevel and tnDevSysUserStatus, flagging any account with elevated privilege or an unexpectedly enabled status. Checking tnDevSysMethodTable / tnDevSysMethodEntry (indexed by tnDevSysClientIndex) shows which tnDevSysLoginMethod is configured for each access method named in tnDevSysMethodName, which matters when verifying that a device wasn't reconfigured to allow a weaker authentication method than intended.
What Can Be Monitored
- user account status
- user privilege level
- login method per access channel
- user account list
