What Is TELDAT-TRAP-DNS-MIB?

TELDAT-TRAP-DNS-MIB is a vendor MIB from Teldat defining SNMP trap notifications generated by the DNS event subsystem on Teldat routers. It exposes fault/event data in the form of DNS-related notification objects -- identifiers, resolved names, IP addresses, and DNS response codes and counts -- carried as varbinds within DNS event traps rather than as polled counters. As a notification-focused MIB it is used for monitoring the software status of the DNS resolver subsystem on the router, alerting operators in near real time when a DNS query fails, times out, or returns an unexpected response code, rather than reporting on CPU, memory, or hardware sensor data. It depends on the standard SNMPv2-MIB/NOTIFICATION-TYPE framework for its trap definitions and complements Teldat's broader trap MIB family covering other subsystems. It is typically deployed on Teldat enterprise routers where DNS resolution reliability needs to be tracked via SNMP trap alerts rather than polling. Engineers can download the TELDAT-TRAP-DNS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

When a DNS query fails or times out, the router would emit a notification from dnsNotifications carrying varbinds such as dns3-name and dns3-ip-address (identifying the query and its resolved address) alongside dns7-rcode, dns7-qdcount, and dns7-ancount describing the DNS response code and record counts. An operator watching the dnsEventsGroup traps would see an unexpected non-zero dns7-rcode as a signal that DNS resolution is failing for a particular name, which could explain other services on the router losing name resolution. Because this MIB is trap-oriented, there is little to poll directly; monitoring instead relies on receiving and parsing these DNS event notifications.
