What Is TELDAT-TRAP-ATM-MIB?

TELDAT-TRAP-ATM-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Teldat, a maker of enterprise/carrier routers, defining SNMP trap notifications generated by the ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) event subsystem on Teldat routers. It exposes notification objects that carry ATM interface/circuit identifying information such as VPI/VCI values, mnemonics, buffer pointers, and data lengths for multiple ATM interface instances (atm1, atm2, atm3, etc.). This is fundamentally a fault/event MIB rather than a polled-counter MIB: it is used to monitor the operational health of ATM interfaces by capturing asynchronous trap events (e.g. circuit failures, buffer issues) as they occur rather than through periodic polling of hardware state. It depends on the standard SNMP notification/trap framework to deliver these ATM event notifications to a management station. It is typically deployed on Teldat routers that terminate ATM WAN circuits, in enterprise or carrier access networks transitioning from or coexisting with legacy ATM infrastructure. Engineers can download the TELDAT-TRAP-ATM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

A NOC would configure its trap receiver to capture Teldat's atmNotifications, which carry fields like atm1-vpi, atm1-vci, atm1-mnemonic, and atm1-buffer identifying the specific ATM virtual circuit and buffer condition associated with the event. Repeated traps referencing the same atm2-vpi/atm2-vci pair with an atm2-len or atm2-buffer anomaly would suggest a persistent problem on that specific ATM virtual circuit, such as cell loss or buffer exhaustion. Because this MIB is trap-oriented, there is little to periodically poll - the value comes from receiving and correlating the notifications as ATM subsystem events occur.
