Category: Fibre Channel and Storage

Description: Defines managed objects for managing Fibre Channel Zone Server operations, including zone set activation and merge events.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring T11-FC-ZONE-SERVER-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is T11-FC-ZONE-SERVER-MIB?

T11-FC-ZONE-SERVER-MIB is a vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB (per the T11 FC-GS-5 specification) for managing Fibre Channel Zoning Server operations in Storage Area Network fabrics, covering both Basic and Enhanced Zoning Management. It exposes configuration and operational objects for zone set administration - capability discovery, database storage type, distribute/commit actions, and results/reason codes for zoning operations, plus notifications for zone set activation and merge events. Its monitoring value is centered on the software/control-plane status of the SAN fabric's zoning service: t11ZsServerResult and t11ZsServerReasonCode reveal whether a zone set distribution or commit operation succeeded or failed and why, while t11ZsServerLastChange indicates when the zoning database was last modified, both important for detecting fabric zoning misconfigurations or merge conflicts. It is built on the T11 FC-GS-5 Fibre Channel standard and typically coexists with other FC fabric management MIBs (e.g., FC-MGMT-MIB) on the same switch, with the T11-FC-ZONE-SERVER-MIB reference documenting the exact zoning object semantics vendors must implement for compliance. It is deployed on Fibre Channel SAN switches and directors from any T11-compliant vendor where in-band zoning management is exposed via SNMP.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in T11-FC-ZONE-SERVER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fibre Channel SAN switches/directors (vendor-neutral, standards-based per T11 FC-GS-5)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll t11ZsServerTable/t11ZsServerEntry, keyed by t11ZsServerFabricIndex, to check t11ZsServerResult and t11ZsServerReasonCode after issuing a t11ZsServerDistribute or t11ZsServerCommit operation, confirming whether the zone set change propagated successfully across the fabric. t11ZsServerLastChange would be checked to see when the zoning database was last modified, and a non-zero reason code combined with t11ZsServerReasonCodeExp text would reveal a specific zoning failure (e.g., a merge conflict) that needs resolution. t11ZsServerCapabilityObject and t11ZsServerDatabaseStorageType would be checked to confirm what zoning features and persistence the fabric switch supports.

What Can Be Monitored

  • zone set distribute/commit result
  • zoning operation reason code
  • zoning database last-change time
  • zoning capability and storage type
