What Is CISCO-ISCSI-GW-MIB?

CISCO-ISCSI-GW-MIB is a Cisco-specific MIB for storage networking equipment that manages iSCSI-to-Fibre Channel gateway functionality, in which FC targets and initiators are virtualized and presented to IP networks as iSCSI endpoints (and vice versa). It exposes configuration and status data covering import/export target mappings, iSCSI-to-FC node associations, authentication method settings, and persistent FC addressing used to bridge the two fabrics. Its main monitoring value is in tracking the health and consistency of this storage virtualization layer: whether iSCSI sessions and their mapped FC node roles and persistent addresses remain correctly established, and whether authentication configuration is intact, which directly affects storage connectivity availability rather than exposing classic CPU/temperature-style hardware sensors. Cross-referencing iscsi2FcNodeTable entries -- iscsi2FcNodeRole and iscsi2FcNodePersistentFCAddr -- reveals whether an iSCSI node is still correctly mapped to its persistent FC address; a mismatch or missing entry would indicate a broken gateway mapping and impending storage access failure for hosts relying on that iSCSI path.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using cIscsiStatsConnectionRxBytes OID:

Select a Cisco MDS/Nexus storage switch (iSCSI-to-FC gateway) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cIscsiStatsConnectionRxBytes into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the total number of bytes received on an iSCSI session. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
