Category: Power and UPS

Description: Monitors Synology NAS UPS battery status, charge level, runtime remaining, and power state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SYNOLOGY-UPS-MIB?

SYNOLOGY-UPS-MIB is a Synology module for monitoring an attached UPS (uninterruptible power supply) unit protecting a Synology NAS, covering device identity and real-time power/battery status. It exposes UPS model, manufacturer, serial number, type, description, contact/location, and MAC address alongside status, alarm, and time-remaining information. Its monitoring emphasis is explicitly on power/hardware status: whether the UPS is on mains or battery power, whether an alarm condition is active, and how much runtime remains on battery, which is critical for triggering a graceful NAS shutdown before power loss causes data loss. It complements the Synology NAS's own health MIBs by covering the external power-protection device rather than the NAS itself. It is deployed on Synology NAS units with a directly attached or network-monitored UPS in home, SMB, or data-closet environments. Engineers can download the SYNOLOGY-UPS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SYNOLOGY-UPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Synology NAS with attached UPS
  • UPS device

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls upsInfoStatus and upsInfoAlarm to detect when the UPS has switched to battery power or raised an alarm, and checks upsInfoTime for estimated runtime remaining, using upsDeviceModel/upsDeviceSerial to confirm which physical UPS unit is reporting. A upsInfoStatus indicating on-battery combined with a rapidly falling upsInfoTime would trigger an automated graceful shutdown of the NAS before the battery is depleted.

What Can Be Monitored

  • UPS status/alarm state
  • battery runtime remaining
  • UPS model/manufacturer/serial
  • UPS device type/location
