Category: D-Link, VLAN

Description: Manages D-Link static forwarding database entries including MAC address, port, and VLAN bindings.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is STATICFDB-MIB?

STATICFDB-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from D-Link covering static forwarding database (FDB) entries on managed switches, i.e. manually configured MAC-address-to-port bindings. It exposes a table for static FDB entries associating a MAC address, port, and VLAN. Its monitoring value is configuration-status oriented rather than performance counters: verifying the swStaticFdbMgmt table matches the intended manual bindings confirms critical devices (servers, uplinks) remain pinned to the correct switch port and VLAN rather than drifting due to a misconfiguration or cabling change. It is a small companion module to D-Link's broader bridge/switching MIB set (working alongside standard BRIDGE-MIB dynamic FDB entries). It is deployed on D-Link managed switches in enterprise or SMB network environments. Engineers can download the STATICFDB-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in STATICFDB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link managed switch

Monitoring Examples

A network administrator would walk the static FDB management table (rooted at swStaticFdbMgmt) to confirm a critical server's MAC address is still statically bound to its expected port and VLAN, catching accidental deletion or a port renumbering after a switch reconfiguration. Comparing this static table against the dynamically learned bridge forwarding table would reveal whether a device has physically moved to a different port than its static entry specifies.

What Can Be Monitored

  • static MAC-to-port bindings
  • VLAN assignment of static entries

RFC description

Static forwarding database MIB for managing permanent (static) MAC address entries in network switch forwarding tables, providing precise control over MAC-to-port mappings.
