Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is STATIC-MAC-BASED-VLAN-MIB?
STATIC-MAC-BASED-VLAN-MIB is a vendor MIB (D-Link, using the 'sw' switch object prefix) for managing static MAC-address-to-VLAN mapping rules on managed switches, a feature that assigns traffic from specific MAC addresses to a designated VLAN regardless of the physical port. It exposes control tables for defining MAC-to-VLAN bindings and an options table for auxiliary per-mapping settings such as associated VLAN ID and status/type flags. This is a configuration/software-status monitoring MIB: administrators use it to verify that specific devices (by MAC address) are correctly bound to their intended VLAN and that each mapping rule's row status is active, rather than tracking physical sensor data. It is expected to operate alongside the switch's core Q-BRIDGE-MIB/VLAN MIB and standard BRIDGE-MIB for full Layer 2 forwarding visibility, since MAC-based VLAN assignment interacts with the switch's overall VLAN and forwarding tables. Typical deployment context is enterprise or SMB switched networks using MAC-based VLAN assignment for mobile devices or guest/BYOD segmentation that must follow a device regardless of which port it connects to, a capability defined entirely within the STATIC-MAC-BASED-VLAN-MIB MIB.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in STATIC-MAC-BASED-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- D-Link managed Layer 2/Layer 3 switch
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll swStaticMacBasedVlanCtrlTable/swStaticMacBasedVlanCtrlEntry to confirm a given swStaticMacBasedVlanCtrlMacAddr is correctly bound to the expected swStaticMacBasedVlanCtrlVlanName and that swStaticMacBasedVlanCtrlStatus shows the rule as active. The companion swStaticMacBasedVlanCtrlOptionTable/swStaticMacBasedVlanCtrlOptionEntry with swStaticMacBasedOptionVlanID would be checked when a device unexpectedly lands on the wrong VLAN, revealing a stale or misconfigured MAC-to-VLAN binding. A rule left in an inactive swStaticMacBasedVlanCtrlOptionStatus would explain why a device isn't receiving its expected VLAN treatment despite an apparently correct MAC entry.
What Can Be Monitored
- MAC-to-VLAN static bindings
- VLAN assignment per MAC address
- mapping rule active/inactive status
- MAC-based VLAN option configuration
