Category: IP Routing Protocols, SNA and Legacy WAN Protocols

Description: Covers frame relay interface configuration, PVC status, and traffic statistics on Sonoma devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SONOMA-FR-MIB?

SONOMA-FR-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for Sonoma Systems networking equipment covering Frame Relay WAN interfaces. It exposes configuration and operational data for the Frame Relay DLCMI (Data Link Connection Management Interface), including polling intervals, error thresholds, and monitored event counts. It supports hardware/software status monitoring in the sense of interface and PVC operational state: dlcmiState and dlcmiStatus reveal whether a frame relay link is up, signaling correctly, or has failed, and error threshold counters flag degrading link quality. It builds on the standard Frame Relay DTE MIB conventions (RFC 2115-style DLCMI objects) adapted for Sonoma hardware. It is typically deployed on WAN routers or FRADs providing frame relay access in legacy telecom or enterprise WAN environments, where SONOMA-FR-MIB SNMP monitoring supports frame relay link-quality and PVC status tracking.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SONOMA-FR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Sonoma Systems frame relay router/FRAD
  • WAN access equipment

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll sonomaFrDlcmiTable/sonomaFrDlcmiEntry per interface, checking sonomaFrDlcmiState and sonomaFrDlcmiStatus to confirm the DLCMI protocol is actively exchanging status with the frame relay switch. sonomaFrDlcmiErrorThreshold and sonomaFrDlcmiMonitoredEvents would be watched to see if polling failures are accumulating toward the threshold, indicating a flaky PVC. sonomaFrDlcmiPollingInterval and sonomaFrDlcmiFullEnquiryInterval reveal how frequently the device checks link status, useful for diagnosing why a failure took a certain time to be detected.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DLCMI link state
  • PVC/DLCMI status
  • polling and enquiry intervals
  • error threshold counts
  • monitored event counts
