Category: SNMP Infrastructure and Standards
Description: Manages IETF SNMP persistent storage configuration for storing agent state across restarts.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SNMP-STORAGE-MIB?
SNMP-STORAGE-MIB is a vendor-neutral IETF-style MIB defining objects that let a management application explicitly commit conceptual-row changes made via SNMP Set into an agent's non-volatile (stable) storage, so changes survive a reboot. It exposes storage/commit configuration and status, essentially a control point for triggering and confirming a save-configuration action, rather than physical disk or memory storage data. Its monitoring relevance is software-configuration integrity: an operator can confirm that recent SNMP-driven configuration changes were actually persisted to stable storage rather than existing only in volatile memory, which matters for catching a device that will silently revert its configuration on the next power cycle. It is part of the general SNMP framework's approach to non-volatile storage management and is referenced by other MIBs, for example via the StorageType textual convention, that mark individual rows as volatile, non-volatile, permanent, or read-only. It is used within SNMP agent implementations wherever configuration changes need an explicit, verifiable commit-to-flash/NVRAM step rather than relying on autosave. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the SNMP-STORAGE-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SNMP-STORAGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- any SNMP agent needing persistent (non-volatile) row storage
Monitoring Examples
No specific object or table names were supplied for this module, so a concrete polling example can't be grounded in real identifiers; the realistic scenario is an operator triggering a commit operation after a batch of configuration Sets, then polling this MIB's status object to confirm the commit succeeded before assuming the changes will survive a reboot.
What Can Be Monitored
- configuration commit/save status
- pending non-volatile storage operations

RFC description
Provides mechanisms for committing non-volatile MIB data to stable storage.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMP agent needing persistent non-volatile row storage (commit-to-stable-storage control) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
