All MIBs › SNMPv2-TC-EXT-01
Category: Legacy and Compatibility MIBs, SNMP Infrastructure and Standards, Textual Conventions and SMI
Description: Extends SNMPv2 textual conventions with additional data types for enhanced MIB module development.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SNMPv2-TC-EXT-01?
SNMPv2-TC-EXT-01 is a vendor extension of the standard SNMPv2-TC textual-conventions module, adding extra reusable data types for MIB authors rather than defining any managed objects itself. Per its module description, one addition is a UTF-8-encoded human-readable string type for internationalized text fields, i.e. a syntax/type definition rather than runtime device data. As a pure textual-conventions module it has no monitoring role of its own; it defines how other MIBs represent data, such as internationalized strings, rather than exposing any status, performance, or health information itself. It directly depends on and extends the standard SNMPv2-TC (RFC 2579) conventions, and any MIB using its types transitively depends on this module. It is used at MIB-development time, imported by other modules from the same vendor that need the extra data types it defines, rather than deployed as a standalone monitored entity. Engineers can download the SNMPv2-TC-EXT-01 file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SNMPv2-TC-EXT-01. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral extension of SNMPv2 textual conventions, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- any SNMP MIB module needing internationalized string types
Monitoring Examples
This module defines only textual conventions (data types) for other MIBs to import, such as a UTF-8 string syntax, and contains no managed objects of its own, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; its only use is as a syntax dependency for other MIBs.
