Category: Disk and Storage Health Monitoring, NetApp Storage Management
Description: Manages SM7 storage module configuration, disk shelf status, and hardware component health.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SM7-10MIB?
SM7-10MIB is a vendor-specific MIB registered under the Symbios/Wichita enterprise branch (sm7-10) that models fault/event reporting for the SM7-10 storage array subsystem. Its sole table, infoTable (indexed by deviceHostIP), carries the payload fields used in SNMP trap notifications: the reporting host's IP and name, a user-assigned array label (deviceUserLabel), a device/MEL error code (deviceErrorCode), the event time and a human-readable trap description, plus a failing component's type and location (componentType, componentLocation). The single defined trap, storageArrayCritical, carries all of these objects together and is described as signaling an event requiring immediate user interaction, such as a component failure or critical error. Because this MIB is entirely trap-oriented rather than pollable-counter oriented, its monitoring value comes from catching asynchronous critical-fault notifications from the storage array rather than from periodic SNMP GETs, and it is deployed on SM7-10 storage arrays as part of a broader storage management stack. Storage administrators typically consult the SM7-10MIB MIB definition when configuring their trap receiver to correctly decode these array-critical alerts.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SM7-10MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Symbios/Wichita SM7-10 storage array
Monitoring Examples
An SNMP trap receiver captures a storageArrayCritical trap and inspects its componentType and componentLocation objects alongside deviceErrorCode; a repeated critical trap referencing the same disk shelf location would indicate a persistent hardware fault on that component rather than a transient error.
What Can Be Monitored
- critical storage-array fault trap notifications
- reporting host IP/name and array user label
- device/MEL error code
- failing component type and physical location
- event timestamp and trap description text
