Description: MIB for SmartOptics optical switch modules, monitoring per-port input power levels, loss-of-signal thresholds, and switch port operational status

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SL-OSW-MIB?

SL-OSW-MIB is a vendor MIB from Smartoptics for the Optical Switch (OSW) module on its SiteLight platform, a component used to physically switch optical signals between fiber paths, often for protection or restoration purposes. It exposes per-port configuration such as input power thresholds and loss-of-signal detection settings for each switch line/port. Its monitoring emphasis is on optical hardware health: slOSWPortConfigInPowerLevel reports the actual received optical power on a port, and slOSWPortConfigLosThreshold defines the threshold below which a loss-of-signal condition is declared, letting operators detect fiber degradation or a disconnected patch before it triggers an outage. The slOSWPm branch suggests supplementary performance-monitoring data collected per port. It is part of the SiteLight family alongside SL-OPT-APS-MIB, with which it likely cooperates for optical-layer protection switching, and is deployed in DWDM/optical transport nodes requiring physical fiber-path switching, where SL-OSW-MIB SNMP monitoring helps catch fiber degradation before it triggers loss-of-signal alarms.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SL-OSW-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Smartoptics SiteLight optical transport platform (optical switch module)

Monitoring Examples

An engineer would poll slOSWPortConfigTable/slOSWPortConfigEntry indexed by slOSWPortConfigLineIndex to read slOSWPortConfigInPowerLevel for each switch port, comparing it against slOSWPortConfigLosThreshold to see how close a given port is to declaring loss of signal. A steadily dropping input power level nearing the configured threshold would warn of fiber degradation before an actual LOS trap fires from slOSWTraps, prompting preventive maintenance on that fiber run.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port input optical power level
  • loss-of-signal threshold
  • switch port configuration
  • port performance metrics
