Description: HPOV-NNM-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPOV-NNM-MIB?

HPOV-NNM-MIB defines general management objects and the enterprise OID root used by HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM), including serving as the OpenView Enterprise ID for SNMPv1 traps generated by the NNM application itself. It exposes generic event/alarm-forwarding objects -- source identity, object ID, severity, category, and CMIP-related mapping fields -- used when NNM re-emits or forwards management events as SNMP traps. Its monitoring value is oriented toward software/event status: openViewSeverity and openViewCategory classify the severity/type of an event NNM is reporting, while openViewData carries event detail, giving downstream systems visibility into NNM's own event/alarm processing rather than any specific hardware. It bridges OSI/CMIP-style management events (openViewCmipManagedObjectClass, openViewCmipEventTime) into the SNMP world, showing a dependency on CMIP/OSI management concepts alongside SNMPv1 trap conventions. It is typically deployed wherever HP OpenView NNM acts as a manager-of-managers, forwarding or normalizing events from other management systems to downstream NMS consumers via this MIB's trap format. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the HPOV-NNM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPOV-NNM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM) server; forwards events originating from many managed systems

Monitoring Examples

A downstream NMS receiving an SNMPv1 trap under the OpenView enterprise OID would parse openViewSourceId/openViewSourceName and openViewObjectId to identify which NNM-managed object generated the event, and check openViewSeverity/openViewCategory to triage how urgently to respond. For events originating from CMIP/OSI-managed sources, openViewCmipManagedObjectClass and openViewCmipEventTime would be inspected to trace the event back to its original OSI management object and timestamp.

What Can Be Monitored

  • forwarded event source ID/name
  • forwarded event object ID
  • event severity
  • event category
  • CMIP managed object class (for OSI-originated events)
  • CMIP event time
