Description: MIB for Optical Transport Network (OTN) modules on SmartOptics equipment, covering OTU2/OTU2e line-rate configuration, ODU performance monitoring, and fault traps
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SL-OTN-MIB?
SL-OTN-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Smartoptics covering Optical Transport Network (OTN) modules on its SiteLight equipment, addressing OTU2/OTU2e line-rate configuration and ODU-layer performance monitoring. Its data spans configuration (operation mode, forward error correction, stuffing, trace identifiers), performance monitoring (ODU-layer PM counters), and fault traps, making it a comprehensive OTN-layer status MIB. Its monitoring focus includes both configuration verification and hardware/protocol health: FEC enablement and trace-identifier (DAPI/SAPI) mismatches are common causes of OTN link faults, and the PM group lets an operator track error performance over time, effectively monitoring the software/protocol-level health of the optical transport layer. It is built around ITU-T G.709 OTN concepts (OTU/ODU framing, FEC, trail trace identifiers) though it is a vendor-specific implementation rather than a direct extension of an IETF MIB. It is deployed on Smartoptics SiteLight OTN transponders/muxponders in long-haul and metro optical transport networks. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the SL-OTN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SL-OTN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Smartoptics SiteLight OTN transponder/muxponder
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll slOTNConfigTable entries for slOTNConfigOperationMode and slOTNConfigFECEnabled to confirm a given OTU2/OTU2e line is running the expected rate and FEC setting. Comparing slOTNConfigOTUkDAPIToExpect/slOTNConfigOTUkSAPIToExpect against slOTNConfigOTUkDAPIReceived would reveal a trail-trace mismatch, a classic cause of an OTN link failing to establish even though the physical signal is present. The slOTNPm group would then be checked for accumulated error counters, and slOTNTraps monitored for fault notifications such as loss of frame or FEC-uncorrectable errors.
What Can Be Monitored
- OTU2/OTU2e operation mode
- FEC enable status
- trail trace identifier (DAPI/SAPI) match
- OTN performance monitoring counters
- OTN fault/alarm traps
