Description: Manages Shiva remote access server AppleTalk interface configuration and tunnel parameters.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SHIVA-AT-MIB?
SHIVA-AT-MIB is a vendor MIB from Shiva Corporation, a maker of dial-up remote access servers (the LanRover product line, later part of Intel), covering configuration of the AppleTalk network-layer protocol on Shiva remote access ports. It defines objects for AppleTalk interface configuration - such as per-port network and node addressing - and for AppleTalk tunneling parameters used to carry AppleTalk traffic encapsulated over IP links. Its monitoring value is software/protocol status on the remote-access device: checking whether an AppleTalk interface is enabled, correctly addressed, and whether a configured tunnel is up, confirms the AppleTalk stack is functioning correctly for dial-in AppleTalk clients. It is one of several Shiva per-protocol MIBs on the same chassis, alongside SHIVA-NW-MIB for NetWare and SHIVA-TPPP-MIB for the underlying PPP layer. It was deployed in legacy AppleTalk-routing remote-access environments on Shiva LanRover dial-up servers, a technology now largely obsolete. Engineers can download the SHIVA-AT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SHIVA-AT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Shiva LanRover remote access server
Monitoring Examples
Only the IMPORTS clause was captured in the available source excerpt for this module, so no concrete object names beyond that can be cited; based on its stated scope, an administrator would typically check AppleTalk interface configuration objects to confirm the protocol is correctly bound and addressed on a given remote-access port, and check tunnel-parameter objects to confirm an AppleTalk-over-IP tunnel is established.
What Can Be Monitored
- AppleTalk interface configuration status
- AppleTalk network/node address assignment
- AppleTalk tunnel parameters/status
