Description: Siemens/Nokia Siemens Networks SHE DSLAM Single-Ended Line Testing (SELT) feature control for connecting to and managing an external SELT server over copper DSL loops

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SHE-SELT-MIB?

SHE-SELT-MIB is a Nokia Siemens Networks module for the SHE/hiX DSLAM platform controlling Single-Ended Line Testing (SELT), a copper-loop diagnostic technique that characterizes a DSL line's electrical properties from the exchange end only (without needing access to customer premises equipment) by connecting to an external SELT test server. It defines the feature-control command objects used to initiate, direct, and manage a SELT test session against a specific subscriber line. Its use is diagnostic/software-status monitoring for line-hardware troubleshooting: an operator triggers a SELT test to assess a copper pair's condition (length estimate, faults, bridged taps) before or in place of a truck roll, and the module's status/command objects reveal whether a requested test is running, completed, or failed. It depends operationally on connectivity to an external SELT server, and conceptually complements the DSLAM's xDSL/SHDSL line-management MIBs on the same platform. It is deployed on Nokia Siemens Networks hiX-series DSLAM access nodes to support remote copper-loop qualification and fault diagnosis in DSL access networks, and administrators can download the SHE-SELT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SHE-SELT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia Siemens Networks SHE/hiX-series DSLAM access node

Monitoring Examples

No specific object/table names were captured in this extract, but per the module description an operator would issue a SELT feature-control command against a target DSL line, then poll the resulting status objects to see whether the test connected to the external SELT server successfully and what line-condition result came back, using that to decide whether a truck roll is needed for a subscriber reporting DSL sync problems.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SELT test command/session status
  • SELT server connection state
  • line diagnostic test result

RFC description

A vendor-specific MIB for managing SELT (Single-Ended Line Test) functionality in network devices. This MIB provides management objects for monitoring and controlling line testing parameters and diagnostic capabilities.

Start monitoring Nokia Siemens Networks SHE/hiX-series DSLAM access node (Single-Ended Line Test command/status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
