Description: Nokia Siemens Networks SHE DSLAM proprietary RMON extension adding control groups for alarm threshold configuration and EtherStats table management

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SHE-RMON-MIB?

SHE-RMON-MIB is a Nokia Siemens Networks proprietary extension of the standard RMON-MIB, built specifically for the SHE DSLAM platform used in broadband access networks. Rather than defining new traffic-statistics tables, it adds control groups that let an operator configure alarm thresholds and manage EtherStats table behavior, so its data categories are primarily configuration and alarm-management rather than raw counters (those still come from RMON-MIB itself). Its monitoring value is in software/configuration health: it lets an NMS verify that threshold-crossing alarms are correctly configured and firing, effectively supervising the health of the RMON alarm subsystem on the DSLAM rather than device hardware directly. It explicitly depends on and extends the IETF RMON-MIB (RFC 2819), inheriting its EtherStats and alarm table structure. It is deployed on Nokia Siemens SHE DSLAM chassis in carrier access networks where Ethernet-level traffic anomalies need threshold-based alerting. Engineers can download the SHE-RMON-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SHE-RMON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia Siemens Networks SHE DSLAM

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would configure a proprietary control object to set a rising/falling threshold on an EtherStats entry (e.g. CRC error count or utilization) tied to a specific DSLAM Ethernet interface, then rely on RMON alarm/event objects to fire a trap when the interface crosses that threshold. Polling the control group confirms the threshold values are still applied as intended after a reboot or config change. This is useful for catching a slowly degrading uplink port before it causes visible service loss.

What Can Be Monitored

  • EtherStats alarm threshold configuration
  • rising/falling threshold settings
  • RMON control group state
  • Ethernet interface statistics table management
  • alarm/event trigger configuration
