Description: MPLS-LSR-MIB-CAPABILITY module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MPLS-LSR-MIB-CAPABILITY?

MPLS-LSR-MIB-CAPABILITY is a vendor-neutral IETF AGENT-CAPABILITIES MIB that documents which specific objects and features of the base MPLS-LSR-MIB (Label Switching Router MIB) a particular SNMP agent implementation actually supports. Rather than exposing operational data itself, it serves a purely descriptive/meta role, listing supported groups, variations, and any implementation limitations of the label-switching router MIB on a given agent. Its practical use in monitoring is indirect: it tells a network management system which MPLS-LSR-MIB tables and objects (e.g., label switching table entries, cross-connect status) it can reliably query on this device, helping avoid polling unsupported objects rather than reporting hardware/software health itself. By definition it is entirely dependent on the base MPLS-LSR-MIB, whose object groups it references and qualifies. It is used during MIB compilation and NMS provisioning phases on MPLS label-switching routers, where the MPLS-LSR-MIB-CAPABILITY reference determines correct polling capability.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MPLS-LSR-MIB-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • MPLS label-switching router (LSR)

Monitoring Examples

An NMS or MIB browser would parse MPLS-LSR-MIB-CAPABILITY to determine that a given agent supports, for instance, the mplsInSegmentTable and mplsXCTable groups from MPLS-LSR-MIB but not certain optional variations, guiding which label-switching objects it is safe to poll. This prevents wasted or failing SNMP GET requests against unsupported label-switch cross-connect objects on that vendor's implementation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • supported MPLS-LSR-MIB object groups
  • agent capability variations
  • implementation limitations for LSR objects
