Description: Manages PPPoE session configuration, authentication, and subscriber statistics on Ruckus devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RUCKUS-PPPOE-MIB?

RUCKUS-PPPOE-MIB manages PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) session configuration and connectivity status on Ruckus wireless/networking devices, used where the device authenticates to an upstream provider or gateway via PPPoE. It exposes subscriber authentication credentials, per-interface connection objects, and the current PPPoE connection status. This is a software service-status MIB: it lets an admin verify whether a PPPoE session is currently established on a given interface, which is essential when the device relies on PPPoE for its WAN uplink, and to trigger re-application of settings via an apply object. It builds on standard interface indexing (ifIndex) conventions to associate a PPPoE session with a physical or logical interface. It is deployed in Ruckus deployments where devices use PPPoE for broadband-style WAN connectivity, such as certain outdoor or SMB access point/gateway configurations, and the RUCKUS-PPPOE-MIB MIB is the SNMP interface administrators use to confirm those sessions stay connected.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RUCKUS-PPPOE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ruckus wireless access points/gateways

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll ruckusPPPOEConnectionStatus per ruckusPPPOEIfindex to confirm whether the PPPoE session on a given interface is up, and check ruckusPPPOEUserName to verify the correct subscriber credentials are configured. A connection status stuck in a non-connected state despite correct ruckusPPPOEUserName/ruckusPPPOEPassword values would point to an upstream authentication or line issue rather than local misconfiguration. Setting ruckusPPPOEApply would be used to push a configuration change and re-establish the session.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PPPoE connection status per interface
  • PPPoE subscriber username configured
  • PPPoE session apply/re-establish state

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using ruckusPPPOEConnectionStatus OID:

Select a Ruckus wireless access points/gateway (PPPoE session configuration/connectivity status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type ruckusPPPOEConnectionStatus into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. Specifies PPPoE connection status. Return up(1) if connection is up, down(2) if connection is down, disabled(3) if PPPoE is disabled. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'connected', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
