Category: Generic / Unclassified, Routing

Description: Manages router configuration parameters, interface settings, and routing table entries.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RT-CFG-MIB?

RT-CFG-MIB is a private NBase-Xyplex MIB, registered under enterprises.629 and explicitly described in its own header as a 'Private MIB for Linux Router', that manages router configuration parameters, virtual-interface settings, and related routing/switching table entries. It exposes nbRtDevDiffServMode for the router's global DiffServ marking mode (byTOS/byTag) and nbRtVifTable, a virtual-interface table (nbRtVifIpAddress, nbRtVifMask, nbRtVifProtocol, nbRtVifName, nbRtVifPortList, nbRtVifMac, nbRtVifAdminStatus, nbRtVifIsTagged, nbRtVifTag) describing each Layer 3 interface's IP binding, port membership, and VLAN tagging; per its revision history the module also grew tables for VPLS, per-port accounting, DiffServ rate limiting, and policing actions. This configuration data is useful for confirming a virtual interface's IP/VLAN binding and admin state match intent, since a mismatch here typically explains unreachable subnets or mis-tagged traffic. It depends on RFC1213-MIB for ifIndex correlation and predates SNMPv2 textual conventions, reflecting its late-1990s/early-2000s origin, and it is deployed on NBase-Xyplex Linux-based router platforms, as documented in this RT-CFG-MIB guide to its virtual-interface and DiffServ objects.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RT-CFG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NBase-Xyplex Linux-based router/switch platforms

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls nbRtVifTable for a given nbRtVifId to check nbRtVifAdminStatus against nbRtVifIpAddress/nbRtVifMask and nbRtVifTag; a virtual interface showing an unexpected nbRtVifTag or an admin-down status would indicate a misconfigured VLAN binding preventing traffic from reaching that Layer 3 interface.

What Can Be Monitored

  • virtual interface IP address, mask, and MAC binding
  • virtual interface admin status and VLAN tag
  • global DiffServ marking mode
  • per-port/per-vif accounting counters
  • rate-limit and policing action table entries
