Category: Routing

Description: Manages RIPng (RIP next generation) IPv6 routing protocol configuration and neighbor statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RIPNG-MIB?

RIPNG-MIB (module identity swRIPngMIB) is a D-Link vendor-private MIB, registered under the dlink-common-mgmt enterprise subtree, that manages RIPng -- RIP for IPv6 -- configuration on D-Link switches such as the DGS-3600 series referenced in its revision history. It exposes global protocol controls including swRIPngGlobalState (enabled/disabled), swRIPngMethod (no-horizon/split-horizon/poison-reverse), and timer objects swRIPngUpdateTime, swRIPngExpireTime, and swRIPngGarbageCollectionTime, plus a per-interface swRIPngIfTable keyed by swRIPngIfName that exposes swRIPngIfState and swRIPngIfMetric for each RIPng-enabled interface. As a configuration-oriented MIB, it is useful for confirming which interfaces participate in RIPng, what routing-loop-prevention method is active, and whether timers match the deployment's convergence requirements, rather than for exposing hardware counters. It depends on DLINK-ID-REC-MIB for its dlink-common-mgmt registration point and coexists with D-Link's broader IPv6 routing MIB set; administrators consulting the RIPNG-MIB RFC for standard RIPng semantics (RFC 2080) will find this vendor module implements the same enable/metric/timer model on top of D-Link's switch platform.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RIPNG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link network switches (e.g. DGS-3600 series) supporting RIPng

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls swRIPngIfTable to confirm swRIPngIfState is enabled(1) on all IPv6-routed interfaces and swRIPngIfMetric values reflect the intended path cost; an interface unexpectedly showing disabled(2) while swRIPngGlobalState is enabled(1) would indicate that interface has been excluded from RIPng and may be missing IPv6 route advertisements.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RIPng global enable/disable state
  • split-horizon/poison-reverse method setting
  • update/expire/garbage-collection timers
  • per-interface RIPng state
  • per-interface RIPng metric
