swRIPngMethod

Module: RIPNG-MIB

OID (symbolic): RIPNG-MIB::swRIPngMethod

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.171.12.83.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This object indicates the method to be done while sending routing informations. If the configured value is split-horizon(2) then routes learnt on a interface are not sent over that interface. If the configured value is poison-reverse(3) then such routes are sent with a metric of 16.

What is swRIPngMethod?

This read-write setting selects which loop-prevention technique RIPng uses when it would otherwise advertise a route back out the interface it was learned on, defaulting to split-horizon. Choosing split-horizon(2) simply withholds a learned route from being re-advertised on its source interface, while poison-reverse(3) instead advertises it back with a metric of 16 (unreachable) for faster loop detection at the cost of more update traffic; no-horizon(1) disables this suppression entirely. For example, on a network prone to route flapping, an admin might switch swRIPngMethod from split-horizon(2) to poison-reverse(3) to speed up convergence when a route becomes unreachable.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.171.12.83.2
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> RIPNG-MIB::swRIPngMethod

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.171.12.83.2.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> RIPNG-MIB::swRIPngMethod.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.171.12.83.2.1 i <value>
