Organization: Redstone Communications, Inc.
Last Updated: 1998-01-01
Category: DSL and Broadband Access
Description: Extends standard interface management with Redstone-specific counters and configuration objects.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is REDSTONE-IF-MIB?
REDSTONE-IF-MIB is Redstone Communications' enterprise extension to the standard interfaces MIB, adding vendor-specific interface attributes and stacking information on Redstone networking equipment. It exposes an interface table with Redstone-specific type/attribute objects and an interface-stack inventory table describing how logical and physical interfaces layer on top of one another. Its main monitoring role is around interface configuration and operational status/topology - confirming interface types and how they are stacked - rather than deep hardware sensor data like temperature or power. It explicitly builds on and depends on the standard IETF IF-MIB (ifTable/ifStackTable conventions), extending rather than replacing it. It is typically deployed on Redstone Communications network access/aggregation equipment where operators need vendor-specific interface detail beyond what the standard IF-MIB provides. Engineers can download the REDSTONE-IF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in REDSTONE-IF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Redstone Communications network access/aggregation device
Monitoring Examples
An operator would cross-reference rsIfTable/rsIfEntry (via rsIfType) with the standard ifTable to get Redstone-specific interface typing, then walk rsIfInvStackTable/rsIfInvStackEntry to see rsIfInvStackStatus and confirm how logical interfaces are layered over physical ones. An unexpected rsIfInvStackStatus value on a stack entry would reveal a broken or misconfigured interface stacking relationship, such as a logical interface no longer properly bound to its physical parent. This complements standard interface polling with vendor-specific stacking detail Redstone's platform requires.
What Can Be Monitored
- interface type (vendor-specific)
- interface stack status
- interface stacking relationships
- interface inventory
