Category: DSL and Broadband Access

Description: Manages broadband remote access provisioning parameters for ADSL subscriber lines.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RBBPROVISIONING-MIB?

RBBPROVISIONING-MIB is a vendor-neutral, standards-oriented MIB for provisioning broadband customer premises equipment (CPE), built primarily around xDSL services (including ATM-transported DSL) though not limited to that technology. It exposes configuration/provisioning data -- the parameters needed to set up and activate a subscriber's broadband line and CPE -- rather than live traffic counters or hardware sensor readings. Its monitoring role is chiefly around service/configuration status: confirming a subscriber line's provisioning parameters have been correctly applied and the CPE has picked them up, which is a software/configuration-state check rather than hardware health monitoring. It is closely tied to xDSL standards work and complements DSL physical-layer MIBs (e.g., HDSL2-SHDSL-MIB, ADSL-LINE-MIB) which report the actual line performance and sync status. It is deployed by broadband access providers provisioning DSL modems/routers at the customer premises, often alongside a broadband remote access server (BRAS) or DSLAM. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the RBBPROVISIONING-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBBPROVISIONING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • xDSL customer premises equipment (CPE)/modem-router

Monitoring Examples

sample_objects is empty for this module, so no concrete object/table names can be confirmed. Based on the module description, an operator would use this MIB to push and verify xDSL/ATM provisioning parameters to CPE, then check that the provisioning state reflects "active" or "complete" to confirm a subscriber line came up correctly after a service order. Without object names available, this remains a general scenario rather than an object-level example.

What Can Be Monitored

  • broadband line provisioning parameters
  • CPE provisioning/activation status
