Category: Environmental Monitoring

Description: Manages Red Lion Controls RAM (Remote Access Module) industrial networking device configuration and status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RED-LION-RAM-MIB?

RED-LION-RAM-MIB is a Red Lion Controls enterprise MIB for the RAM (Remote Access Module), a cellular/industrial networking gateway used to provide remote connectivity for industrial automation and M2M devices. It exposes unit identity and software version information (serial number, firmware version, unit name/description) alongside cellular-specific parameters such as MDN, MIN/IMEI, NAI, SID, NID, and PRL that describe the device's cellular network registration and activation state. For monitoring, it is primarily used to confirm the cellular modem's software version and activation/registration status -- checking unitFirmwareVersion for version audits and the activated flag alongside sid/nid to confirm the unit is properly registered on the cellular network, which is critical since loss of cellular registration means loss of the entire remote link. As a compact vendor enterprise MIB it has no significant dependency on external standard MIBs. It is deployed on Red Lion RAM cellular gateways at remote/unattended industrial sites (e.g., pump stations, remote sensors) where cellular connectivity is the primary or backup WAN link. Engineers can download the RED-LION-RAM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RED-LION-RAM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Red Lion RAM (Remote Access Module) cellular gateway
  • industrial M2M cellular router

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll unitFirmwareVersion and unitSerialNumber to audit device software versions across a fleet of remote RAM units, and check the activated flag together with sid (system ID) and nid (network ID) to confirm a unit remains properly registered on the carrier's cellular network. A change in prl (preferred roaming list) or an unactivated state would indicate a provisioning problem preventing cellular connectivity, effectively isolating that remote site until resolved. mdn and minIMEI identify the specific subscriber unit for correlation with the carrier's records.

What Can Be Monitored

  • unit firmware version
  • unit serial number
  • cellular activation/registration status
  • SIM/MIN/IMEI identifiers
  • system ID/network ID
