What Is RBN-DS1-MIB?
RBN-DS1-MIB is a vendor-specific module for Redback SmartEdge BRAS platforms extending management of DS1/T1, E1, DS2, and E2 physical-layer interfaces beyond what standard IETF track MIBs provide. It exposes configuration objects for DS1/T1 lines along with alarm-related attributes describing severity and whether an alarm is service-affecting. Its monitoring purpose is directly hardware-fault oriented: polling rbnDsx1AlarmSeverity and rbnDsx1AlarmServiceAffecting per rbnDsx1ConfigEntry reveals whether a T1/E1 line is currently in an alarm state and whether that alarm is impacting live traffic, a core physical-layer health indicator for carrier access links. It explicitly builds on and supplements the standard DS1/E1 MIB (RFC 3895 or its predecessors), adding Redback-specific alarm detail beyond the base standard. It is typically deployed on Redback SmartEdge routers terminating T1/E1 leased lines in carrier and enterprise access networks. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the RBN-DS1-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-DS1-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- DS1/T1 line alarm severity
- service-affecting alarm status
- DS1 line configuration state
Supported Devices
- Redback SmartEdge router (T1/E1/DS1/DS2 access)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll rbnDsx1ConfigTable/rbnDsx1ConfigEntry and check rbnDsx1AlarmSeverity for each configured T1/E1 line to detect degraded or failed physical circuits. If rbnDsx1AlarmServiceAffecting indicates true, that signals the alarm is currently impacting live customer traffic on that line, prompting immediate escalation, whereas a non-service-affecting alarm might be logged for later maintenance. This table would typically be polled alongside the standard DS1/E1 interface MIB counters to correlate alarm state with actual line performance degradation.
