TEXTUAL-CONVENTION

What Is RBN-TC?

RBN-TC is Redback Networks' shared textual-conventions module defining common data types used across Redback's SmartEdge BRAS (Broadband Remote Access Server) MIB family. It exposes no monitoring data itself; it standardizes representations, such as identifiers, state enumerations, or counter formats, that other Redback SmartEdge MIBs build upon to report subscriber session, interface, and system status. Actual hardware/software status monitoring -- uptime, CPU/memory, subscriber session counts, port status -- is performed by those dependent Redback MIBs, not here. It is imported by the broader Redback SmartEdge MIB suite for consistent typing, so keeping the RBN-TC reference available is a prerequisite for compiling any SmartEdge subscriber-session or interface MIB correctly. It is deployed as a supporting module for Redback (later Ericsson) SmartEdge BRAS platforms used by broadband service providers for subscriber aggregation.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Redback Networks SmartEdge Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS) platforms

Monitoring Examples

This module contains only TEXTUAL-CONVENTION definitions, with no sample_objects and no runtime tables provided, so nothing here is directly pollable. Redback SmartEdge system and subscriber-session MIBs import these conventions to consistently represent things like session state or interface identifiers. No monitoring scenario is fabricated since this is a types-only support module.
