Category: ATM, Vendor: Ericsson

Description: Defines ATM traffic profiles including QoS parameters for PVC provisioning on SmartEdge.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RBN-ATM-PROFILE-MIB?

RBN-ATM-PROFILE-MIB is a private MIB from Redback Networks (SmartEdge platform) defining ATM traffic profiles, including QoS and traffic-descriptor parameters used for provisioning permanent virtual circuits (PVCs). It exposes a profile table with named entries specifying counters-enabled flags, cell loss priority, and transmit buffer settings applied to ATM circuits. This is primarily a configuration/provisioning MIB for QoS enforcement rather than a direct hardware/software health monitor, though the counters-enabled flag does govern whether related performance monitoring is active. It extends standards-track ATM traffic management concepts (ATM Forum/ITU traffic descriptors) with Redback-specific profile grouping. It is typically deployed on Redback SmartEdge broadband aggregation routers to standardize QoS treatment across many subscriber ATM PVCs, with the RBN-ATM-PROFILE-MIB MIB defining the profile objects that make that standardization possible.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-ATM-PROFILE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Redback Networks SmartEdge broadband aggregation routers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll rbnAtmProfileTable entries, indexed by rbnAtmProfileName, to review rbnAtmCellLossPriority and rbnAtmTransmitBuffers settings applied to a group of subscriber circuits, confirming QoS provisioning matches the intended service tier. If rbnAtmCountersEnabled is set to false for a profile, an operator would know that per-circuit performance counters for those PVCs are not being collected, explaining an apparent lack of statistics elsewhere.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATM profile name and assignment
  • cell loss priority setting
  • transmit buffer allocation
  • counters-enabled flag per profile
