What Is RBN-PVC-MIB?

RBN-PVC-MIB is a Redback Networks/Ericsson SmartEdge enterprise MIB for configuring and managing Permanent Virtual Circuits across ATM, Frame Relay, and IEEE 802.1Q (VLAN) encapsulations on a SmartEdge BRAS chassis. It exposes a PVC configuration table keyed by slot, port, VPI and VCI, carrying the circuit's profile name, encapsulation type, row status, circuit type and handle, plus an operation to clear a circuit, alongside standard notification and conformance groupings. Its monitoring value centers on subscriber-circuit configuration/software status: the PVC row status shows whether a given circuit is active, not-in-service, or being created/destroyed, and the circuit handle/type let an operator confirm a circuit is correctly provisioned before troubleshooting a subscriber connectivity complaint. It builds on standard ATM PVC (VPI/VCI) and Frame Relay/802.1Q circuit concepts layered onto Redback's slot/port addressing, and complements the related RBN-ATM-PVC-OAM-MIB which tracks OAM/fault state for the same circuits. It is deployed on Redback/Ericsson SmartEdge BRAS routers providing ATM- or Frame-Relay-based broadband access. Engineers can download the RBN-PVC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-PVC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Redback SmartEdge (Ericsson) BRAS router

Monitoring Examples

An operator queries rbnAtmPvcConfigTable/rbnAtmPvcConfigEntry for a subscriber circuit identified by rbnAtmPvcSlot, rbnAtmPvcPort, rbnAtmPvcVpi and rbnAtmPvcVci to confirm rbnAtmPvcRowStatus is active and rbnAtmPvcEncapsulation matches the expected rbnAtmPvcProfileName; an unexpected notInService status would explain a subscriber's loss of connectivity. Setting rbnAtmPvcClearCircuit lets an admin remotely reset a misbehaving PVC without a truck roll, and rbnAtmPvcCircuitHandle is used to cross-reference this circuit with other Redback MIBs that reference circuits by handle.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PVC row/operational status
  • PVC identified by slot/port/VPI/VCI
  • encapsulation type and profile
  • circuit type and handle
  • circuit clear operations
