Category: IGMP and Multicast, Vendor: RADLAN/Cisco SB

Description: Sets up multicast bridging and per-VLAN multicast forwarding parameters on Marvell switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RADLAN-rlBrgMulticast-MIB?

RADLAN-rlBrgMulticast-MIB is a private MIB supported by Marvell MTS software that configures multicast bridging, including static IP multicast group forwarding rules per VLAN, similar in spirit to IGMP-snooping-managed forwarding tables. It exposes configuration of which ports forward or are forbidden from carrying traffic for a given multicast group, along with per-rule status. While it doesn't expose classic hardware sensors, verifying the forwarding/forbidden port assignments and status is directly useful for confirming multicast traffic is reaching (or correctly being blocked from) the intended ports, functioning as an operational-forwarding-state check. It builds on standard IEEE 802.1Q bridging/VLAN concepts and complements IGMP snooping mechanisms used elsewhere on the switch. It is deployed on switches carrying IPTV or other multicast applications that require efficient, controlled Layer 2 multicast forwarding. Engineers can download the RADLAN-rlBrgMulticast-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-rlBrgMulticast-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Marvell/Radlan-based managed switch

Monitoring Examples

rlBrgStaticIpMulticastTable/Entry, indexed by rlBrgStaticIpMulticastVlanTag, rlBrgStaticIpMulticastGroupAddress, and rlBrgStaticIpMulticastSourceAddress, defines static multicast forwarding rules, with rlBrgStaticIpMulticastFrwPorts and rlBrgStaticIpMulticastForbiddenPorts showing which ports carry or are blocked from that group, and rlBrgStaticIpMulticastStatus indicating rule state. An admin troubleshooting a multicast stream not reaching a subscriber port would check whether that port is present in FrwPorts (or mistakenly listed in ForbiddenPorts) for the relevant group address.

What Can Be Monitored

  • static multicast group forwarding rules per VLAN
  • ports forwarding vs forbidden for a multicast group
  • multicast forwarding rule status
  • VLAN tag associated with multicast group
