Description: Manages web-based authentication (WBA) portal settings and client sessions on Cisco Small Business switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCOSB-WBA-MIB?

CISCOSB-WBA-MIB is a Cisco Small Business private MIB for Web-Based Authentication (WBA), a captive-portal style mechanism that requires clients to authenticate via a web login page before gaining network access. It exposes an auxiliary table tracking each client's IP address, authentication status, failure reason, retry flag, and the username/password used during the login attempt. Its monitoring value is authentication/session status—identifying clients currently pending or failing web authentication and diagnosing why (via the failure reason code), which is a fault/access-control monitoring function rather than a performance metric. It complements 802.1X-based access control (CISCOSB-DOT1X-MIB) as an alternative authentication method and has no strong external MIB dependency. It is deployed on Cisco Small Business switches providing guest or BYOD network access via a browser-based login portal. Engineers can download the CISCOSB-WBA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-WBA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Small Business switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll rlWBAAuxiliaryTable/rlWBAAuxiliaryEntry, checking rlWBAStatus for each client identified by rlWBAIp to see if authentication succeeded, and rlAuxFailReason to diagnose why a login attempt failed (e.g. bad credentials). A high rate of entries with rlIsRetryFlag set and a consistent rlAuxFailReason would indicate a systemic issue such as an expired shared credential or portal misconfiguration rather than isolated user error.

What Can Be Monitored

  • client IP under web authentication
  • authentication status per client
  • authentication failure reason
  • retry attempt flag
  • username used for login attempt
