Category: IGMP and Multicast, Vendor: RADLAN/Cisco SB

Description: Manages DVMRP multicast routing protocol configuration and route table on Radlan switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RADLAN-rlDvmrp-MIB?

RADLAN-rlDvmrp-MIB is a vendor MIB from Radlan (an embedded switch software provider whose code underlies many private-label switches) covering DVMRP (Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol) configuration and route table state on Radlan-based switches. It exposes multicast routing configuration and operational data: protocol enable state, timer intervals (probe interval, neighbor timeout, flash update interval, route report interval, route expiration, and prune lifetime), and a route table showing designated forwarders for multicast routes. In monitoring terms it is used to track the health and behavior of the DVMRP multicast routing process -- for example confirming DVMRP is enabled, timers are set as expected, and the designated forwarder for a given route is the anticipated router -- functioning as a routing-protocol status module rather than one reporting CPU, memory, or environmental sensor data. It builds on general IP multicast routing concepts standardized informally around DVMRP (RFC 1075) and complements IF-MIB for interface association. It is typically deployed on Radlan-based Layer 3 switches in enterprise or campus networks running legacy DVMRP multicast routing. Engineers can download the RADLAN-rlDvmrp-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-rlDvmrp-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Radlan-based Layer 3 switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll rlDvmrpEnable to confirm DVMRP is active, then check timer objects such as rlDvmrpProbeInterval, rlDvmrpNeighborTimeOutInterval, and rlDvmrpPruneLifetime to verify protocol timing configuration matches the network design. The rlDvmrpRouteDesignatedForwarderExtTable, indexed via rlDvmrpRouteDesignatedForwarderExtEntry, would be checked to confirm rlDvmrpRouteDesignatedForwarder reflects the expected upstream router for a multicast route; an unexpected forwarder change could reveal a topology change or a neighbor timeout event upstream.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DVMRP enable state
  • DVMRP timer intervals (probe/timeout/prune)
  • designated forwarder per multicast route
  • route report/expiration timing
