Description: Handles static MAC multicast address entries within the bridge forwarding table.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RADLAN-rlMacMulticast-MIB?

RADLAN-rlMacMulticast-MIB is an enterprise MIB from RADLAN, a switch-software vendor whose embedded L2/L3 stack is licensed and rebranded by multiple OEM switch makers, covering static MAC multicast forwarding entries and IGMP/MLD snooping configuration. It exposes configuration objects for enabling MAC multicast filtering and IGMP snooping, per-VLAN IGMP version and aging timers, and tables of statically configured multicast group-to-VLAN (TV) bindings. From a monitoring perspective it lets an administrator confirm the software-level multicast-forwarding configuration is correct: whether IGMP snooping is enabled on the expected VLANs, what aging timers are in effect for hosts and routers, and which static multicast groups have been provisioned, which helps troubleshoot multicast traffic such as IPTV not reaching or improperly flooding to clients. It builds on the concepts of standard IGMP-snooping conventions found in related IETF work, though it is implemented as RADLAN's own enterprise objects. It is deployed on switches built on the RADLAN embedded switch operating system, commonly found as the underlying software in various OEM-branded managed switches supporting multicast television/video distribution. Engineers can download the RADLAN-rlMacMulticast-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-rlMacMulticast-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • switches based on the RADLAN embedded switch OS (various OEM-branded managed switches)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check rlIgmpSnoopEnable and rlIgmpSnoopVlanIgmpVersion to confirm snooping is active and using the expected IGMP version on a given VLAN, then poll rlIgmpSnoopMulticastTvTable/rlIgmpSnoopMulticastTvEntry to verify a specific rlIgmpSnoopMulticastTvGroup is correctly bound to the intended rlIgmpSnoopMulticastTvVID. Checking rlIgmpSnoopHostAgingTime and rlIgmpSnoopRouterAgingTime helps explain unexpectedly fast or slow removal of multicast group members from the forwarding table.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IGMP/MLD snooping enable state
  • per-VLAN IGMP version
  • host/router aging timers
  • static multicast group-to-VLAN bindings
  • MAC multicast filter status
