Description: RADLAN private MIB for physical description and stack unit management of RADLAN-based network equipment.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring RADLAN-Physicaldescription-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is RADLAN-Physicaldescription-MIB?

RADLAN-Physicaldescription-MIB is a Marvell/RADLAN private enterprise MIB describing the physical module/slot layout of RADLAN-based stackable switches, including which modules occupy which stack unit and their position/role. It exposes a module table keyed by stack unit and module index, recording module type, starting port and port count, and physical row/column position and role (e.g., master, member) within a stack. This is a physical-inventory/hardware-identification MIB rather than a live-counters MIB: it confirms expected hardware modules are present in each unit/slot, detects missing or unrecognized modules, and clarifies stack topology and unit roles for troubleshooting. It has no apparent dependency on other standard MIBs, being self-contained, though it complements the standard ENTITY-MIB's physical-inventory concept. It is typically deployed on stackable RADLAN-based switches (used by OEMs such as NETGEAR and D-Link) managed as one logical switch, with a RADLAN-Physicaldescription-MIB download often required before it can be loaded into a MIB browser for such devices.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-Physicaldescription-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Marvell/RADLAN-based stackable Ethernet switch
  • OEM stackable switches licensing the RADLAN software stack

Monitoring Examples

Polling rlPhdModuleTable/rlPhdModuleEntry for a given rlPhdModuleStackUnit returns rlPhdModuleType, rlPhdModuleStartingPort, and rlPhdModuleNumberOfPorts, letting an admin confirm each stack member has the expected line-card or uplink module installed. rlPhdModuleRole distinguishes master versus member units, useful when diagnosing a stack split or unexpected master re-election. A module entry unexpectedly missing from rlPhdModuleTable after a reboot indicates a module failed to be detected or a stack cable/unit fault.

What Can Be Monitored

  • module type per stack unit/slot
  • module starting port and port count
  • module physical position (row/column)
  • stack unit role (master/member)
