Category: Vendor: RADLAN/Cisco SB

Description: Provides legacy physical inventory description objects for older Radlan switch hardware.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RADLAN-Physicaldescription-old-MIB?

RADLAN-Physicaldescription-old-MIB is the legacy predecessor of the RADLAN physical-description MIB, retained on older firmware for backward compatibility, and covers the same physical module/slot inventory of RADLAN-based stackable switches. It exposes a module table keyed by stack unit and module index, recording module type, starting port and port count, and physical row/column position and role within a stack. It is a physical-inventory/hardware-identification MIB rather than a live-counters MIB, used to confirm expected hardware modules are present, detect missing modules, and clarify stack topology on legacy switch platforms. It has no apparent dependency on other standard MIBs and complements the concept behind the standard ENTITY-MIB. It is typically found on older-generation RADLAN-based stackable switches that have not migrated to the current physical-description MIB. Engineers can download the RADLAN-Physicaldescription-old-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-Physicaldescription-old-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Marvell/RADLAN-based stackable Ethernet switch (older/legacy platforms)
  • OEM stackable switches licensing the RADLAN software stack

Monitoring Examples

Polling rlPhdModuleTable/rlPhdModuleEntry for a given rlPhdModuleStackUnit on legacy hardware returns rlPhdModuleType, rlPhdModuleStartingPort, and rlPhdModuleNumberOfPorts, confirming each stack member has its expected module installed. rlPhdModuleRole distinguishes master versus member units when diagnosing a stack split. A module missing from the table after a reboot points to a detection failure or a stack cabling fault on the older platform.

What Can Be Monitored

  • module type per stack unit/slot
  • module starting port and port count
  • module physical position (row/column)
  • stack unit role (master/member)
