Description: Manages BATM Advanced Communication switch Forwarding Information Base (FIB) entries and hardware forwarding table state.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is PRVT-SWITCH-FIB-MIB?
This proprietary BATM Advanced Communication MIB models the IP Forwarding Information Base (FIB) used by the hardware forwarding engine of BATM Layer-3 switches. Its subject matter is the switch's actual programmed routing/forwarding table — the set of destination routes and next-hop/interface bindings the hardware uses to forward IP packets — rather than interface or environmental data. It is used to monitor the software/hardware state of the routing subsystem: verifying that routes have been correctly programmed into the FIB, that forwarding-table size and entries match expectations, and detecting inconsistencies that would indicate a routing or hardware-synchronization fault. It complements standard IETF routing MIBs such as IP-FORWARD-MIB/IP-MIB, since the FIB it describes is the hardware realization of routes those standard MIBs already report at a logical level. It is deployed on BATM/Telco Systems L3 switching platforms in carrier and enterprise networks where operators need low-level visibility into the actual forwarding-table contents for routing troubleshooting. Engineers can download the PRVT-SWITCH-FIB-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRVT-SWITCH-FIB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- BATM/Telco Systems Layer 3 switch
Monitoring Examples
No object names were captured in the source extract for this module (sample_objects is empty), so a concrete object-level polling example can't be grounded in real names here; in general terms, an admin would walk the FIB table keyed by destination prefix/mask to confirm routes are installed with the expected next-hop and to catch missing or stale entries after a topology or routing-protocol change.
What Can Be Monitored
- IP forwarding table entries
- route next-hop/outgoing interface bindings
- FIB entry count/synchronization status
