Description: Manages BATM Advanced Communication G.8032 Ring Automatic Protection Switching (RAPS) ring instance and node configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PRVT-RAPS-MIB?

This is a private/enterprise MIB implementing ITU-T G.8032 Ethernet Ring Automatic Protection Switching (ERPS) configuration and status for ring-topology carrier Ethernet networks. It exposes a ring-instance table with role (RPL owner/neighbor), control VLAN, CFM domain level used for fault detection, revertive-mode behavior, virtual channel setting, and hold-off timer, plus notifications for ring protection events. It supports monitoring of the software/protocol health of the ring protection mechanism, tracking each ring instance's operational role and control VLAN to detect misconfigured or degraded ring nodes, and using notifications to alert on ring topology changes (link failures, switchovers) that would otherwise cause a network outage. It explicitly depends on IEEE 802.1ag/ITU-T Y.1731 Connectivity Fault Management (CFM), referenced via prvtRapsInstCfmDomainLevel, for the continuity-check mechanism that drives ring protection switching. Typical deployment is on carrier Ethernet ring switches used in metro/access ring topologies requiring sub-50ms protection switching. Engineers can download the PRVT-RAPS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRVT-RAPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • carrier Ethernet ring switch (G.8032 ERPS)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll prvtRapsInstTable/prvtRapsInstEntry, indexed by prvtRapsInstIndex, for prvtRapsInstRole, prvtRapsInstRingId, and prvtRapsInstControlVlan to confirm each node's ring role and VLAN assignment. If prvtRapsInstRevertiveMode is enabled but a ring stays in a non-reverted state after a fault clears, or a prvtRapsMIBNotifications trap fires repeatedly for the same prvtRapsInstRingId, it points to a flapping link or a misconfigured prvtRapsInstHoldOffTimer. prvtRapsInstCfmDomainLevel confirms which CFM maintenance domain drives the ring's continuity-check-based fault detection.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ring instance role (owner/neighbor)
  • ring protection switchover events
  • control VLAN assignment
  • CFM domain level
  • revertive mode state
  • hold-off timer setting
