Description: Manages BATM Advanced Communication EFM OAM configuration on switch ports including link monitoring and remote loopback.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PRVT-SWITCH-EFM-OAM-MIB?

This is a BATM Advanced Communication private extension MIB providing configuration and reporting for Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) OAM, per-port, on BATM switches — supplementing the standard DOT3-OAM-MIB with vendor-specific options. It exposes categories such as OAM protocol enable/timer configuration, remote-loopback control, packet counters, and event/history logging. It supports monitoring of link-level software/protocol health: keepalive and hello-interval settings, OAM PDU send/receive counters, and remote-event notifications reveal whether first-mile Ethernet links are healthy or degrading. It explicitly complements the standard IEEE 802.3ah DOT3-OAM-MIB, adding capabilities not present in that base standard. It is deployed on carrier-Ethernet and metro-access switch ports where EFM OAM is used for remote link monitoring and fault isolation. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the PRVT-SWITCH-EFM-OAM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRVT-SWITCH-EFM-OAM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • BATM Advanced Communication Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

Operators enable per-port OAM via prvtEfmOamEnable and tune prvtEfmOamHelloInterval and prvtEfmOamKeepAlive to detect link faults quickly; prvtEfmOamPktsSent and prvtEfmOamPktsReceived in prvtEfmOamTable reveal whether OAM PDUs are flowing normally between peers. A spike in prvtEfmOamRemoteEvent notifications combined with stalled packet counters points to a failing first-mile Ethernet link, while prvtEfmOamLocalSysLog retains history for post-incident diagnosis.

What Can Be Monitored

  • EFM OAM enable status per port
  • OAM keepalive/hello interval
  • OAM packets sent/received
  • remote OAM events
  • OAM priority setting
  • OAM history log size
