What Is PRVT-ELMI-MIB?
PRVT-ELMI-MIB is a proprietary BATM Advanced Communication MIB implementing management for Ethernet Local Management Interface (E-LMI), a MEF-defined protocol used between customer-edge (UNI-C) and provider-edge (UNI-N) devices to communicate Ethernet Virtual Connection (EVC) status. It provides per-interface configuration objects (polling counters, polling and verification timers, operating mode) and statistics tracking for E-LMI protocol exchanges. Monitoring-wise, this MIB concerns the operational/software health of the E-LMI protocol session rather than physical hardware: it lets an operator confirm that status polling between customer and provider equipment is succeeding and that UNI status is being correctly communicated, with prvtELMIClearStatistics available to reset counters during troubleshooting. As an E-LMI implementation it depends conceptually on the MEF Ethernet service model and is typically paired with EVC/service MIBs (such as PRVT-SERV-MIB) on the same platform. It is deployed on BATM carrier Ethernet switches at the network-to-customer boundary (UNI) in Carrier Ethernet service deployments. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the PRVT-ELMI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRVT-ELMI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- BATM Advanced Communication carrier Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would check prvtELMICfgTable entries for prvtELMIIfEnable and prvtELMIIfMode to confirm E-LMI is active and correctly configured (UNI-N or UNI-C) on a given interface, then review prvtELMIStatisticsTable to see whether polling and status enquiries are being answered within the configured prvtELMIPollingTimer. A rising prvtELMIStatusCnt of failed or unanswered polls would indicate a communication breakdown with the customer-edge device, prompting a check of physical connectivity. prvtELMIClearStatistics lets an admin reset the counters after resolving an issue to get a clean baseline.
What Can Be Monitored
- E-LMI interface enable/mode
- polling counter/timer configuration
- E-LMI status poll success/failure counts
- UNI status communication health
