What Is PRVT-RAPS-SVC-MIB?

PRVT-RAPS-SVC-MIB is a BATM Advanced Communications proprietary MIB for managing G.8032 Ring Automatic Protection Switching (RAPS) with service support on their Carrier Ethernet switches, binding VLANs/services to ring protection instances. It exposes tables for service-to-ring-instance associations, including CFM domain level, sub-ring configuration, and sub-ring role assignment. This MIB directly supports fault and resiliency monitoring — tracking prvtRapsSvcInstRowStatus and sub-ring role/status lets an operator confirm ring protection is correctly provisioned and verify failover behavior during a ring break, which is a critical availability metric for carrier Ethernet ring topologies. It depends on the ITU-T G.8032 standard for its protection-switching logic and likely interacts with CFM (802.1ag/Y.1731) MIBs given the CFM domain level reference. It is deployed on BATM Advanced Communications Carrier Ethernet switches participating in G.8032 protection rings in service-provider metro networks. Engineers can download the PRVT-RAPS-SVC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRVT-RAPS-SVC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • BATM Advanced Communications Carrier Ethernet switches (G.8032 ring nodes)

Monitoring Examples

An operator can poll prvtRapsSvcInstTable via prvtRapsSvcInstIndex to check prvtRapsSvcInstRowStatus and prvtRapsSvcInstCfmDomainLevel, confirming a ring protection service instance is active at the correct CFM domain level. Checking prvtRapsSvcInstSubRingTable's prvtRapsSvcInstSubRingRole for a given prvtRapsSvcInstSubRingId reveals whether a sub-ring is configured as interconnection node or virtual channel, and monitoring prvtRapsSvcMIBNotifications would flag ring topology changes or failover events.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ring protection service instance status
  • CFM domain level per service
  • sub-ring configuration and role
  • sub-ring row status
  • ring protection switching events (via notifications)
