Organization: Schmid Telecom, Zurich

Last Updated: 2004-12-17

Category: Optical Networking

Description: Manages Schmid Telecom Pegasus SDH/PDH microwave radio links, covering modulation, RF power, and link alarm status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PEGASUS-MIB?

PEGASUS-MIB is a Schmid Telecom enterprise MIB for the Pegasus SDSL product line, modeled after a PEM (Performance and Equipment Management) client structure with groups for DSL, V5, and data cards, rack-wide parameters, and performance history. It exposes per-card hardware inventory and status objects alongside line and interface tables for the DSL, V5, and data card groups. It is explicitly used to monitor hardware status, including dslCardAvailabilityStatus, dslCardOperState, dslCardCommState, and dslCardAlarmStatus per line card, as well as hardware identification data like dslCardHardwareVersion, dslCardFirmwareVersion, and dslCardSerialNumber, making it a strong fit for chassis/card health monitoring. Its dependency context is internal to the vendor's own PEM management model rather than a direct IETF standard. It is deployed on Schmid Telecom Pegasus SDSL microwave/wireline access equipment in carrier access racks. Engineers can download the PEGASUS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PEGASUS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Schmid Telecom Pegasus SDSL card/rack
  • DSL access equipment

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll dslCardTable/dslCardEntry for a given dslCardSlotNumber to check dslCardOperState and dslCardCommState, confirming a line card is operational and communicating correctly with the rack controller. dslCardAlarmStatus surfaces active alarms on a card, while dslCardAvailabilityStatus indicates whether the card is in service, spare, or failed. Comparing dslCardFirmwareVersion across cards helps identify units still running outdated firmware that need upgrading.

What Can Be Monitored

  • card availability/operational/communication state
  • card alarm status
  • hardware/firmware version and serial number
  • per-slot card inventory
