Description: Manages NBS forward error correction configuration and bit error statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NBS-FEC-MIB?
NBS-FEC-MIB is a vendor-specific module for configuring and monitoring Forward Error Correction (FEC) on NBS (Network Broadband Systems / satellite-modem style) interfaces. It centers on a single FEC configuration table indexed by interface, exposing which FEC coding schemes the interface is capable of, the administratively configured coding mode, and the operationally active coding mode. For device monitoring its key use is detecting a mismatch between admin and operational FEC settings, which signals that a requested coding change did not take effect, an early sign of a link-layer configuration or negotiation problem on the underlying transmission interface. It depends implicitly on the standard ifIndex numbering from IF-MIB to tie its FEC table entries to specific physical interfaces. It is deployed on NBS transmission/modem equipment used in point-to-point or satellite links where forward error correction settings must match at both ends for the link to operate correctly. Engineers can download the NBS-FEC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NBS-FEC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- NBS transmission/modem equipment
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll nbsFecCfgCodeAdmin against nbsFecCfgCodeOper for a given nbsFecCfgIfIndex to confirm the FEC coding scheme actually applied on the interface matches what was configured; a persistent mismatch indicates the interface failed to negotiate the requested code. Checking nbsFecCfgCodeCaps first tells the administrator which coding schemes the interface hardware even supports, useful before attempting to change nbsFecCfgCodeAdmin to a stronger code to improve error resilience on a noisy link.
What Can Be Monitored
- FEC coding capabilities
- administratively configured FEC code
- operationally active FEC code
- per-interface FEC configuration
