Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NBS-OBA-MIB?
NBS-OBA-MIB is a vendor MIB for managing optical booster amplifiers (OBAs) used in cable/optical bandwidth allocation systems. It exposes configuration and status data about amplifier line interfaces, including per-line unit sizing, maximum bandwidth units, and per-client-port allocation limits, plus threshold-style definitions for gain, output power, and avails. Its monitoring value centers on hardware health and capacity status of the optical amplifier line cards, tracking available bandwidth units (nbsObaInfoAvails), maximum unit capacity, and per-port allocation so operators can detect over-subscription or amplifier capacity exhaustion. It is a self-contained proprietary MIB built on standard SNMPv2-SMI conventions with no apparent dependency on other functional MIB modules. It is typically deployed by cable/broadband operators managing optical line amplifier chassis in the HFC plant. Engineers can download the NBS-OBA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NBS-OBA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Optical booster amplifier / HFC line amplifier
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll nbsObaInfoTable/nbsObaInfoEntry rows indexed by nbsObaInfoLineIfIndex to check nbsObaInfoAvails against nbsObaInfoMaxUnits, flagging a line where available bandwidth units are approaching zero. The nbsObaDefineTable/nbsObaDefineEntry rows, keyed by nbsObaDefineLinePort, would be checked to confirm per-port allocation configuration matches provisioning intent. A line reporting nbsObaInfoUnitSize inconsistent with nbsObaInfoMaxUnitsPerClientPort would suggest a misconfigured or overloaded amplifier port.
What Can Be Monitored
- available bandwidth units per line
- maximum unit capacity
- unit size
- max units per client port
- per-port allocation configuration
