Description: Defines SNMP alarm notifications for Novell NetWare server critical events and service failures.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NetWare-Server-Alarm-MIB?

NetWare-Server-Alarm-MIB is a Novell vendor MIB that defines SNMP alarm notifications for critical events and service failures on Novell NetWare file/print servers, a legacy network operating system widely used in the 1990s-2000s. It exposes detailed diagnostic data attached to alarm traps, including memory addresses, audit event numbers, disk-space figures, board/connection identifiers, and packet-size information tied to a fault. This is explicitly a fault/software-status monitoring MIB: it is used to detect NetWare server crashes, memory faults (via memoryAddress), disk-space exhaustion (diskSpace), and network board/connection failures, giving administrators the diagnostic context needed to identify a failing NetWare service or resource. Because it is scoped to NetWare-specific internals (NLM/board/connection structures), it has no direct standard-MIB equivalent and is largely self-contained apart from general trap conventions. It was deployed on Novell NetWare file/print servers in enterprise networks, monitored by an NMS to catch server-side hardware/software faults, making the NetWare-Server-Alarm-MIB MIB a key reference for administrators supporting legacy NetWare infrastructure.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NetWare-Server-Alarm-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Novell NetWare file/print server

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would monitor traps carrying diskSpace and resourceDescription to detect a NetWare server volume running critically low on free disk space, or boardNumber/connectionNumber/packetSize accompanying a trap to identify a failing network interface board or an abnormal client connection causing packet errors. auditEventNumber and codeOffset/blockNumber/numberOfBlocks would be examined to pinpoint the specific internal error condition (e.g., a memory or file-system corruption event) that triggered the alarm.

What Can Be Monitored

  • disk space / volume free space
  • memory fault address
  • network board/connection status
  • audit event codes
  • packet size anomalies
