Category: Nortel WLAN
Description: Manages external RADIUS, LDAP, and DHCP server configuration and reachability status on Nortel NTWS controllers.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NTWS-EXTERNAL-SERVER-MIB?
NTWS-EXTERNAL-SERVER-MIB is a Nortel Networks module for their NTWS wireless controller product line, defining configuration objects for external servers the controller depends on, such as syslog, RADIUS, LDAP, and DHCP servers. The available sample objects show syslog server configuration specifically: address, port, and enable state for external syslog destinations. In a monitoring context this module is primarily configuration/dependency-status oriented: it lets an administrator confirm which external syslog (and by extension other external service) endpoints are configured and enabled on the controller, important for verifying logging and authentication dependencies are correctly wired up rather than silently failing. The module separates data objects (ntwsExternalServerDataObjects) from conformance objects (ntwsExternalServerConformance/Compliances/Groups), reflecting standard SNMPv2 MIB module conventions. It is deployed on Nortel NTWS wireless LAN controllers in enterprise wireless network environments requiring external syslog/RADIUS/LDAP integration. Engineers can download the NTWS-EXTERNAL-SERVER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NTWS-EXTERNAL-SERVER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Nortel NTWS wireless LAN controller
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll ntwsExtServerSyslogTable (via ntwsExtServerSyslogEntry, indexed by ntwsExtServerSyslogIndex) to verify the configured ntwsExtServerSyslogAddress and ntwsExtServerSyslogPort for each external syslog server, and check ntwsExtServerSyslogEnable to confirm logging to that destination is active. If expected log messages are missing from a central syslog collector, checking this table would reveal whether the entry was disabled or pointed at the wrong address/port.
What Can Be Monitored
- external syslog server address/port
- syslog server enable state
- external server configuration entries
