Description: Monitors AP radio interface statistics including channel utilization and error counters on Nortel NTWS WLAN systems.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NTWS-AP-IF-MIB?
NTWS-AP-IF-MIB is a Nortel Networks proprietary MIB providing interface-level objects for wireless Access Points (APs) managed by an Access Controller (AC) in Nortel's WLAN switch architecture. It exposes an AP interface table keyed by AP serial number and interface index, reporting interface name, type, MTU, high-speed rate, and MAC address for each AP radio/interface. Its monitoring role centers on hardware/interface status of the access points: identifying which interfaces are present on a given AP by serial number, their negotiated speed, and their MAC addressing, functioning as an AP-scoped analog to the standard IF-MIB. It closely mirrors and depends conceptually on IETF IF-MIB conventions (ifName, ifType, ifMtu, ifHighSpeed patterns) applied per-AP. It is deployed in Nortel wireless switch (WLAN AC/AP) infrastructure in enterprise campus networks. Engineers can download the NTWS-AP-IF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NTWS-AP-IF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Nortel WLAN Access Point (managed by Access Controller/wireless switch)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll ntwsApIfTable entries indexed by ntwsApIfApSerialNum and ntwsApIfIndex, reading ntwsApIfHighSpeed and ntwsApIfMac to confirm a specific access point's radio interface is up and reporting its expected link speed and hardware address. A missing or stale entry for a given AP serial number would indicate that access point has dropped its association with the Access Controller.
What Can Be Monitored
- AP interface name and type
- interface MTU
- interface negotiated high speed
- interface MAC address
- AP identification by serial number
